Masks

Paint masks to control where effects appear

What are Masks?

Masks let you control which regions of the image effects apply to. Paint foreground and background regions, then set each effect to target one or the other.

Painting

  • Foreground brush (B) — paint the foreground region (green tint)
  • Background brush (N) — paint the background region
  • Brush size — adjust with [ and ] keys or the slider
  • Feather — softness of the brush edge

Effect Regions

Each effect has a "Region" selector:

  • Background — effect only appears in unpainted areas (default)
  • Foreground — effect only appears in painted areas
  • Both — effect appears everywhere

Tips

  • Toggle mask visibility with M to see what you've painted
  • Use a large, feathered brush for soft transitions
  • Undo/redo works for mask strokes (Cmd/Ctrl+Z)
  • "Clear mask" in the tool panel removes all painting
